Modernising the classic Kiwi Bach
The original house was built circa 1970’s . It was a simple asbestos weatherboard home which incorporated the design and style for the period in which it was built.
The house had been altered in the 1990's to add a master bedroom to the rear of the existing structure and then again more substantially in 2017 by the current owners.
The brief for the project was to increase and reorganise the living, dining and kitchen areas. Add a new garage with an attached bathroom to the road frontage boundary. This could also be utilised as additional sleeping when extended family comes to stay. Finally an additional third bedroom was added to the front of the existing house.
The owners wanted to retain and enhance the casual beach charm of the 2017 renovations to create a free flowing home that took full advantage of the Waikanae beach environment.
The asbestos cladding was to be removed and the house reclad with beveled back weatherboards. All windows were to be replaced with new double glazed units.
