HOMESTAR PRACTITIONERS

Last week Jon and Peter attended a Homestar training seminar as part of their on-going professional development and interest in sustainable design. They will soon be registered Homestar Practitioners, qualified to provide advice when you are making decisions about home design and attributes that contribute to the comfort, health and performance of your home.

They can guide you on good environmental design to maximise the performance of your new home or renovation and help you get the appropriate Homestar rating. They know how to make a home warm and comfortable, provide a healthy living environment, use resources such as water and energy efficiently, and how to make a home cost you as little as possible to run.

Homestar is based on a 10 star rating system where 10 stars is the highest score. Factors that affect the Homestar rating system include:

  • Site
  • Materials
  • Lighting
  • Heating
  • Water heating
  • Insulation
  • Moisture
  • Water
  • Waste
  • Safety and security
  • Planting and gardens

Learn more about Homestar and use the self-assessment online tool to find out how well your home is performing.
